Is It A Romantic or Platonic Love?

Sometimes there is confusion about whether its love through friendship, or if it's romantic love. You know the hug that may last too long? Or the whisper that seems too close? Whatever it is, if we are not aware of our nonverbal/verbal communication, such as body language, social cues, verbal communication and other signs to differentiate between friendship vs romantic love, it can be very confusing. If we approach the situation without really understanding what is happening, if can mean the difference between having a successful romantic relationship or losing your friend forever.

Here are some things you can do to identify if the relationship is a romantic or platonic love.

Is there sexual intimacy involved?

Do you constantly think about them? Is the passion so high, that you cannot think about anyone else? If so, is this a mutual situation?

Are you jealous of the company they keep?

Is the relationship mutually beneficially? Is it reciprocal?

Why was it created and how is it maintained?

What would you say to a friend in the same situation?

How do you feel about person when you are with and without them?

Is this your ideal romantic person? Write down the pros and cons of having this person in your life as a platonic friend and romantic partner.

Lastly, think about the outcome. Meaning, if your relationship moves from platonic to romantic. Are you willing to risk the possibility if the relationship does not work out, and may be too late to return back to friendship status?

There are many other questions to be asked to the answers we seek. Just remember, to take your time, look at the situation for what it is and not what we want it to be. Be prepared to accept it. They may be the love of your life or a best friend forever! Either way, be kind to yourself through the process and remember, there is only one fabulous you!
